Blank Slate Energy
The power to transform
Often we are stuck in old patterns, old ways of thinking, because we are surrounded by things born of an earlier energy that we need to clear out to think fresh, to think anew. That’s why Marie Kondo was so popular, encouraging the purging of closets everywhere from clutter that represented past energy. The question she poses: does this item bring me joy? If no, it goes.
If we are infinite beings that are constantly evolving, then our superpower is to transform. Transformation is the essence of any powerful story—what is known as the hero’s journey. It is the power of creation within us that is inherent in this transformation process—we can rearrange reality, recreate it at any time and give it a fresh spin, a new outlook, a novel form. However, this process of transformation takes intention, the spark that creates the big bang within us.
So often though, we are bogged down, lugging old items, old stories, old emotions, old furniture, old routines. How can we constantly free ourselves from this? How can we create visual reminders to ourselves that we are free to do this—that it's beneficial to create with the seasons and the natural cycles? Times of creation naturally follows times of letting go.
A literal blank slate as a visual reminder
The other day I removed a piece of art that I had created several years ago. The canvas sat across from my bed; I'd stare at it upon falling asleep and waking. I love it, and when I created it, it represented transformation to me and the messy power of creation. I created it with the Fibonacci sequence in mind, splashing paint in a somewhat controlled fashion onto the canvas. Yet, the other day, the impulse came over me to remove it. Why? Because it was old energy. I had moved through that transformation cycle that the painting symbolized. It was time for fresh energy, a new symbol.
The term Blank Slate Energy came into my thoughts, an articulation of my current feeling in life. With the painting gone, that's exactly what was left on my wall–a blank slate. I now stare at a white wall and I love the blankness. It frees up space in my mind, frees up memories of my recent journey through dark intensity, and reminds me it's always time to create.
We can create anything at any time. As humans we can easily forget this. We can feel weighed down by our old thoughts (thoughts that are rooted in an old level of awareness), as well as other’s expectations and our own old expectations of ourselves. In reality, however, all we need to do is release them. Do we dare?
Even the things, people, places we love can momentarily fade away as we follow the intuitive call to move into a cycle of recreation. This sometimes calls for a time of renewal, of silence, of blocking everything and everyone out to hear our own voice, to hear the call. And sometimes we are forced to, and other times we are adamantly compelled to.
When our spirits know it’s time for change, we have to clear the decks. It can feel unnerving, new, exhilarating and frustrating all at once, like newborns must feel coming into this world. The alternative is to stay trapped in old cycles and patterns born at an earlier time because we fear harnessing our true power to create change. It can be scary! But like anything in life, it takes practice. How do we get good at anything? We practice. With practice, we become comfortable with the new, the potential, change in general.
Clear the decks
So what do you want to create right now? More peace? More love? More forgiveness? More introspection? More dynamism? A new venture? A new sense of self? A new mission? Tap into your God-given ability to create, to stir the dusty galaxies inside yourself, to splash paint on the canvas of your own life—again and again. What's stopping you?
