Am I in a good vibration?
It’s such a good vibration…. common, common, feel it, feel it.
I can’t say why this song came into my head, but I know there is a reason. I supposed I was thinking about songs that put me in a good mood no matter what, like December 1963 (Oh What a Night) or Signed, Sealed Delivered, I’m Yours by Stevie Wonder. Good Vibrations, which I had no idea what the lyrics said except for, “come on, come on, come on, feel it, feel it, feel the vibration!” 😂
But vibration is everything. As Tesla said:
“If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” - Tesla
We may all have bodies, we may see things in the world, but ultimately, we feel things, we sense energy, and energy is always vibrating at a certain frequency based on one’s thoughts and emotions. It’s either slow, fearful, hesitant, conflicted (even evil), and many other states or...powerful, happy, positive, and open to change, visioning good things. Of course we vacillate—we’re only human—but which one do we predominantly live in?
To be in good energy or bad energy, that is the question.
In life, people or situations can affect our vibration because we have mirror neurons in the brain that connect us with others. Why? Because connection is key to our survival as species and being alive.
So how do we keep our vibration high?
[Verse 3: Marky Mark]
Donnie D's on the back up
Drug free, so put the crack up
No need for speed
I'm anti d-r-u-g-g-i-e my
Body is healthy
And rhymes makes me wealthy
And the funky bunch helps me
To bring you a show with no intoxication
Come on, feel the vibration
Yeah
Can you feel it, baby?
I can, too
[Chorus: Loleatta Holloway]
It's such a good vibration
It's such a sweet sensation
It's such a good vibration
It's such a sweet sensation
No wonder, with Loleatta Holloway belting out “Good Vibrations,” combined with Marky Mark's shirtless vibe, the song went to the top of the charts. Mark, Donnie, and Amir got the motivation to create the album because they were going for it, going for the good things in life–health, love, their goals and dream (including creating their album). They are singing about their positive state of mind they were living in, celebrating that they were young, alive and knew they could do anything if they were in a good vibration.
They lyrics remind me of the early punk scene, which developed in in Washington D.C. in Adam's Morgan. My neighbor, James, co-created the documentary Punk the Capital. The original punk scene consisted of kids rebelling against their culture. The punk band, Bad Brains, came out with the song “Attitude” that refrains “Hey, we got that PMA!” PMA referred to “positive mental attitude" that from Napoleon Hill’s book Think and Grow Rich. Only later did the punk scene evolve into drugs.
Why does our culture glamorize drinking? (Hint...$$.) Why did your own government promote hard drugs within our own communities while launching media campaigns like "Just Say No"? (Hint...$$). Luckily Gen Z, isn’t drinking as much as they are more health conscious–I think due to health information they get on social media. If we feel anxious, we can turn to breathwork instead of a drink to quell our anxiety. If we feel low, we can try exercise or hang in nature instead of smoking weed (or any other drug).
Our natural bodies hold the drugs we need. That’s not to say pharmacology can’t be helpful when needed in conjunction with natural approaches, but how can we start to do things in our everyday lives that inspire us and bring us more moments of joy? Some ideas are working on an art project, envisioning something that excites us, taking a risk on something, chasing a dream, exercising, laughing with friends, or writing music, short stories, poems. How can we put ourselves in a good vibration? How can we surround ourselves with others who are also in a high vibration (coming back to those mirror neurons)?
Soul-Prompt: How can I put myself in a good vibration? When I'm not a great vibration, how can I change my habits and daily routines to change this?
