Turning 50: At Peace With My Soul

Turning 50: At Peace With My Soul
How often am I living in a state of peace?

One good thing about getting older is you become more at peace with yourself.  Speaking from my personal experience, in my twenties I felt unsure of what I was doing, in my thirties I was striving, in my forties I was emotionally struggling in a unhealthy relationship (and of course within myself for allowing it) but also making moves to stand on my own and ultimately leading me to do intense shadow work. As I approach 50 (wow), I feel in many ways the most peace I have ever felt. People go through a lot in those thirty years from twenty onward, from relationships, marriages, kids, divorces, career jumps and trajectories and a whole lot of questioning and striving. Wherever you are in that journey, I think after so much turmoil, no matter what happens, the key is to find peace.

What comes to mind is from my Catholic upbringing and the exchange of words among the pews, “Peace be with you” one says to one’s neighbor, “And also with you.” Jesus was dubbed the Prince of Peace after all.

The Importance of Shadow Work

At some point in our journey, however, the struggle can get too intense, and we must do the necessary shadow work. We must ask so many why(s)? Why did I go through this? Why didn’t I act differently? Why didn’t I know better? Why didn’t I love myself more? Why did I put up with that? So many why(s). And at some point, after you’ve done the work, you know why, and you don’t have to soul search as much, question as much, or spend time healing. You get better at just embracing peace more often than not, and that becomes the biggest gift of all.

True Awakening Is Finding Peace

Deepak Chopra has a new book out called Awakening and he has been talking a lot about peace lately. It’s clear he has had a spiritual awakening recently, even if he was considered spiritually aware or awake before. We don't need to have a spiritual awakening to have peace, thank goodness, as healing, awakening and peace have many layers to unravel. We will continue to delve into them our whole lives, hopefully, and yet part of peace is letting go of those layers and just allowing ourselves to be at peace. This means not caring what other people think of us, not questioning ourselves as much, and "silence feels like a trusted friend;" only then you can give the gift of a peaceful presence to everyone else.

Stop striving, stop trying, stop everything and be at peace. And once we find these moments of peace, that get longer and longer the more we allow them, we realize from peace, we can strive, but from an aligned place—aligned to our peace.

Soul-Prompt: How can I allow more moments of peace within me throughout my day? My life?

Check out this great AI created album “I’m at peace with myself now,” that's making the rounds on YouTube and people are playing the whole album on repeat (including me). All the songs are amazing and all on the same theme. What an amazing world we are in when someone can use AI to create a whole album based on a master creator (Roberta Flack). Thanks Iconic Funk Collective!
