I'll Be Fine, Once I Get It

I'll Be Fine, Once I Get It
What truly makes me happy?

“I’ll be fine, once I get it. I’m on the pursuit of happiness...." That line from Kid Cudi’s song hit me. The song itself is quixotic and complex, happy and sad, just like life. Yes, we should pursue our happiness, especially if we aren’t feeling happy, but do you know what truly makes us happy? Have you asked yourself that question…and answered it? Or are you just pursuing what society, family, friends have conditioned you to think will make you happy?

We constantly need to tap into this question as desires change as we emotionally and spiritually evolve. Outdated ideas can linger in our energy but aren't true to who we are in this moment. We’ve all been there: I want this kind of life, this kind of life partner, this thing, this job, but out of what energetic place was that thought born? Does it belong to your energy now?

Desire can be beautiful, especially when rooted in your emotional truth. If rooted in mere thought, our desire holds less resonance; it stays outside of us because it is. It’s what we think will make us happy. That's where manifesting makes me laugh a bit, because these coaches teach you to put emotion into thinking about what you want without realizing that maybe it's not what you truly want or you would already have emotion for it.

If it’s rooted within our emotional truth (or heart space), it’s what we know will make us happy. When you know, the pursuit becomes fulfillment. Why, because you’ve already found the answer inside your being, and the pursuit is just magnetizing more of who you are, what you value, love, what’s vibrating at the same frequency. The pursuit then becomes a joyful unfolding of who we are opposed to a maniacal pursuit of what we lack. Knowing what brings us happiness, even if we don’t have it yet, is the first step to magnetizing more of it. Energy flows where attention goes. If you realize you love spending time with friends, kids, studying lizards, being in nature or exercising, you’ll do more of that and naturally enjoy it. Self-awareness is the starting point and fulfillment naturally flows from it.

There are countless times that I thought happiness laid just outside my reach—I’ll be happy when (this happens). I’ll be fine, once I get it. But we all have the power to get it now. We just have to ask yourself the question, what truly makes me emotionally happy.

Is it...spending time being creative, exploring my spiritual side, building things, being with nature, time with your dog or cat, playing the piano, traveling, writing poetry, hugging your mom, laughing with friends, a sensuous connection with a friend or partner, or all of the above? These are often richer, more honest expressions than "I want a house in Paris," or "I want to make a million dollars." You can tell the qualitative difference. Of course, a house in Paris and million dollars is nice, but without our humanity, our beating heart, the people in that house, it’s just a fleeting thought that holds no true resonance.

Soul-Prompt: What truly makes me happy? What do I already know I love?
