Subterranean Moral Depravity
One thing about the Epstein Files reveals to us how the current power system works—the dark, evil machinations is very Plutonian, and to some, shocking, as it should be. As Dylan’s song aptly titled Subterranean Homesick Blues said,
“Don’t follow leaders and watch your parking meters.”
Very real advice.
While we reconcile the truth during this time of disclosure of the shadowy underworld structures that infiltrate, influence and run the power system of nations and the world, we feel disgust and righteous anger, and a deep roar for justice. At the same time, however, we ensure we keep our psyches strong in the face of this level of depravity and corruption. The signs were there to those who were paying attention, and now there is no hiding it, again, to those paying attention.
Facing and fighting the darkness naturally pulls us into places we don’t necessarily want to go.
It’s ugly, it’s depraved; illusions are dispelled to reveal a darker truth. A horrid underbelly. It's terribly important to search and discover the truth, even if is hard to look at.
Yet what stands in contrast, however, and important to recognize, is the inherent goodness in the majority of individuals—most people who are the opposite of these amoral human beings.
We live in a world of duality, good and evil, those with empathy and those without it. Corruption and scandal have always been around and always will.
“Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. – Lord Acton
The question is, to what degree? Has the system reached a level of peak corruption to be cleansed? I certainly hope so. How can we not be morally sickened and outraged for the young children and other victims. Who are our leaders that will stand up for what’s right? When reality betrays our ideals, our sense of decency, when we find ourselves disillusioned, staring at the ugly reality of our leaders, organizations and systems, the question becomes what can we do?
This is a time of reckoning—of facing the darker truths about our society that’s being revealed to us, of looking at the facts, and asking, how can we build a better world? I believe good outweighs evil, and good people outweigh the morally corrupt and psychopathic.
One thing we can do is remain skeptical about what we are told, what is purposely omitted, and of those in charge. The U.S. Constitution is still one of the most amazing documents and even if the power structure has been deeply corrupted over time, we still have a system that we can stand for, and from which to operate within, and of which citizens have the right push to uphold the law.
During these times, we must make an effort to balance the world with more light in our individual lives. Some people stand up for what’s right when it’s dangerous to do so, like Ro Khanna, Marjorie Taylor Green, and Thomas Massie, who helped spur the vote in Congress to release these files. And Congress, who voted to have these files released (even though only half the files were released). Where are the new prosecutions? Where are the inquiries? I hope they continue to come. Our system of government, in this particular instance, to a partial degree, has prevailed. May it continue to do so in a much bigger way.
The world is complicated, and darkness is attracted to power, yet we, the people, can be the light of the world. We, the people, can stand up for justice to prevail. May the light shine brighter than the darkness. May we stand up for what is right.
Soul-Prompt: How can we call out darkness when we see it? How can we contribute to the light in our daily lives? In small ways? In larger ways?
