Snakes Shed Their Skin

Snakes Shed Their Skin
What have I outgrown in my life?

Snakes are often disliked in American Culture; slithery creatures that threaten to sneak up on you and strike. We don’t trust snake energy. The snake tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden. It can represent temptation.

Yet at the same time, the snake represents transformation—it’s seen spiraling up the Rod of Asclepius or up our spine as Kundalini energy. It carries scorpionic undertones of transformation and letting go. One can't transform if they don't let go of their old skin, their old beliefs, their old ways of being.

The other day I was on a walk in Rock Creek park where I saw a gray, ghostly shell of a snake. The snake was long gone. I stared at it in amazement, the universe always dropping symbols for me everywhere I go. Snakes hold up a mirror for us, a symbol of what’s needed to continually grow.

As we evolve emotionally, spiritually, physically. we naturally shed former versions of ourselves.

Soul-Prompt: What have I outgrown without realizing it? What is dead in my life that I need to shed in order to move on?
