Distraction Economy

Distraction Economy
What distracts me from tuning in with myself everyday?

You wake up, you see you have 3 telegram message, 4 texts message, 10 YouTube notifications, 7 new Instagram notifications, basically a quicksand trap that pulls you in fast and before you know it, your drowning in headlines about the next apocalypse, the collapse of the country, the world, your money, and natural disasters.

Why? Because our economy depends on it; news and social media companies need their eyeballs in the form of revenue and as willing unconscious participants, we send the same things to our friends. This is what was termed the "attention economy" by economist Herbert A. Simon, where your attention is a scare commodity. And that was 1971 before the internet! With mass proliferation of information, where everyone has become a creator, the effect is exponential.

How do we turn the very spigot off that drives the digital and real economy? We turn it off, or down, and go within until we come out with a truth, and then focus on that for while. Tell your friends kindly, I am weaning myself off social media (and all media) for a while and would appreciate if you only message me about your life, not the next Bashar video; even videos on spiritual awakening can be a distraction. How can we tune out to tune in?
